Johann Sebastian Bach: Partita Nr. 6 e-Moll BWV 830
Robert Schumann: Papillons op. 2
Alexander Maria Wagner: Inferno
Robert Schumann: Carnaval op. 9
How happy the cultured world would be if it could listen to recordings of the 15-yearold Arthur Rubinstein or the 14-year-old Elly Ney, when such artists were not yet common property and their playing hadn’t taken on the predictable and stylistically unmistakeable characteristics that the music industry demands. The high-flying concepts of young interpreters, with their undomesticated naturalness are certainly just as interesting as their later years of outstanding craftmanship, when they often have to discard musical conviction in favour of a trademark. TYXart is not looking for dry-cleaned competition champions but for young personalities whose musical ability and individuality are convincing. Of course an outstanding technique is a prerequisite, in order to do justice to the works played. But this aspect has nothing to do with content and can’t tell us what is special about the artist and his music. That is what counts for us. It’s astounding how competition enthusiasts boast about "achievements" such as personality and expressivity. In the end, the fastest, loudest, quietest, most lyrical always win, each with his own "superlatives". Inevitably, it becomes a matter of sport. If this were not true, one could have competitions for humanity or the ability to love, which demonstrates clearly the absurdity of the matter. We are sure: art and personality can’t be judged, even if an unusually talented musician turns up from time to time and wins prizes. TYXart’s selection criteria are the obsession of the young performers, their musical conviction, the reaction of the audience and our own enthusiasm.
