Laudes from late-medieval Italy

Canto Novello – songs of a spiritual, social and, above all, musical renewal: a melting pot, a conglomerate of the centuries-old tradition of the music of the Christian church and the rich poetry of the people, individual, powerful, and stirring.

The ensembles Ars Choralis Coeln and Oni Wytars came together especially for this project in which they could combine their different specialities – enchanting tonal beauty and temperamental instrumental virtuosity – in order to bring to life again the fascinatingly multilayered sound image of vernacular sacred music in the towns of fourteenth-century Upper Italy: entirely in the sense of the “compagnie delle laude.”
