Opera in Two Acts by Gordon Getty Libretto by the composer after Shakespeare (Henry IV Part 1 & 2, Henry V)
The opera is based on the character Plump Jack featured in Shakespeare’s plays Hery IV and Henry V. Getty has put in a lot of time studying the background of the Shakespeare plays and the music of the period, using some of the “actual music and words sung on that day when Henry V was crowned” in the third scene.
Gordon Getty has described himself as a contemporary composer working in a 19th century idiom. He makes no claims to any kind of intellectualism and desires to “touch the heart” with the same directness as a film score.
