La Camerata was founded in 1991 under the musical direction of Juan Diego Arroyo, to focus on the study and performance of Renaissance and Baroque vocal music, concentrating on Spanish composers, performing works that are seldom heard in concert halls. Its members had already devoted some of their years of musical work to the study and performance of medieval and renaissance works. The creation of the group represented a sort of fusion of experiences and its fundamental objective was to bring both religious and secular 15th, 16th and 17th century European and Ibero-American polyphony home to the public at large. This volume focuses on two great figures of Spanish renaissance music: Juan Vasquez and Cristobal de Morales. La Camerata’s repertoire also includes all the Reponsories from the Triduo Sacro by Tomas Luis de Victoria, as well as the show “Volarás pensamiento mío” (“You will fly, thought of mine”) of their own creation, a program based entirely on the music and works of Pedro Calderon de la Barca, and the recital “Mil vuelos pasé de un vuelo” (“A thousand Flights I flew in that one Flight”) with poetry by St. John of the Cross.
