Piano duo Scholtes & Janssens

Lestari Scholtes (1984) and Gwylim Janssens (1985) formed a piano duo in 2003 and are currently regarded as being one of the most promising piano duos of their generation. Critical reactions to their debut in Carnegie Hall in May 2009 were appreciative: “it could well have been 25 or 30 fingers, so big and well integrated was the sound. Terrific duo in top form.” The players are renowned for their enchanting sound, their great technical dexterity and their intense and energetic performances and have given concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Denmark, Poland, Italy, San Marino, Israel, the United States, Dubai, Zimbabwe, Chile and Bolivia. Many of these concerts have also been broadcast at home and abroad on TV and radio by Dutch Radio 4, BBC3, Kol Hamusica (Israel) and Klara (Belgium). They have also appeared on several occasions with the Brabants Orchestra and the Israel Symphony Orchestra. They have also made guest appearances as various festivals, including the Bath Festival, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, TonLagen (the Dresden festival for contemporary music), Braunlage Maikonzerte, Basilica Festival van Vlaanderen, Klevische Klaviersommer, Almere Kamermuziekfestival, Festival Classique and the International Piano Duo Festival in Poland.

The duo has been awarded several prizes, including those from the Friends of the Concertgebouw, the Concours Musical de France, the International Chamber Music Competition Almere 2009 and the IBLA Grand Prize International Music Competition. They were named Talent of the Year by Dutch Radio 4 in 2010.

“Superb teamwork – two as one – with excellent, turn-on-a-dime transitions between episodes”, Jeffrey James - SoundWordSight Arts Magazine - on Scholtes & Janssens’ performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka. Carnegie Hall, may 2012

“If you listen to these two young people play music, you think that everything in the world will be all right” - Menachem Pressler, Beaux Arts Trio
