This is the second CD in a series that will feature the complete oeuvre for solo piano by Robert Schumann. So far there is no TRULY complete recording of the Schumann’s complete piano, although a few presume to bear this title. Florian Uhlig’s interpretations are based on the new critical edition of Schumann’s piano works, and will result in recordings of many pieces that have never-before-been-available on LP or CD
Volume 2 includes several of Schumann's earliest published works, including his Opus 1, the "Abegg" Variations. The Variations on the name "Abegg" in F major was composed between 1829 and 1830. The name is believed to refer either to Meta Abegg or to the countess Pauline von Abegg, both of whom may or may not have been real people. Whether or not Frauline Abegg ever existed, Schumann would utilize this musical cryptogram throughout his career, including in his early masterwork, Carnaval Op. 9.
