Following his recent recordings of Oboe Concertos from the

Classical and Romantic periods, the critically acclaimed oboist

Lajos Lencses turns once again to the Baroque: the Oboe

Concerti of Antonio Vivaldi. While Lajos Lencses has never fully

embraced the current fad for historical-authentic performance

practice, he never hesitates to utilize these techniques when it

serves the expressive character of the music. The Vivaldi’s

Oboe Concerti are among the jewels of the Baroque literature.

In each work, from the lively opening Allegros, to the noble

beauty of the Adagios, through to the dance-like final

movements, Vivaldi’s inexhaustible inventiveness can be heard.

Lajos Lencses brings each of these musical pearls to life – from

rhythmic, rapid passage-work to melancholy meditations – as

no other musician can.

For this new recording, he is joined by the all-female ensemble

La Follia. The selection was Lencses’ own – both for the

exceptional musicianship of this young ensemble, but also in

tribute to the young woman of the Ospedale della Pieta,

orphanage where Vivaldi worked.

While these considerations are perhaps not scientifically

durable, they give these new interpretations an added

dimension for appreciation.
