Bach's cantatas are ever-present in concert and on recordings. This slightly obscures the fact that they by no means corresponded to the conventional standard of a Central German church cantata. In fact, composers such as Telemann and Graupner were the ones who delivered exemplary models for the composition of cantatas. Just like those of Bach, the cantatas of Graupner aim to stir the listener, but without sacrificing intellectual elegance or even the composure fitting for a predominantly courtly community. Graupner's cantatas thus speak a comprehensible but always elevated and notably intellectual language. Unlike the confidently catchy Telemann, Graupner prefers a refined and subtle elaboration that audibly reckons with skilful interpreters and always seeks to move the listener. Despite all these advantages, the discographical exploration of Graupner's over 1400 cantatas has only just begun.

The young Austrian soprano Miriam Feuersinger presents her debut CD accompanied by the Capricornus Consort Basel with a selection of several cantatas by the Kapellmeister at the Darmstadt court. With the agreeable timbre of her easily appealing voice, she succeeds wonderfully in recreating the appropriate tone of Graupner's sensuous cantata style.

Na płycie zaprezentowane zostały kantaty na sopran solo Christopha Graupnera (1683-1760). Zachowało się ponad 1400 kantat kościelnych tego kompozytora późnego baroku, którego „kolegami” byli m.in. Johann Friedrich Fasch, Johann David Heinichen oraz Georg Friedrich Handel. Zetknął się z nimi podczas nauki w Thomasschule w Lispku, a z Handlem w orkiestrze opery hamburskiej. Od 1711 roku związał się z dworem w Darmstadt, gdzie przebywał do końca życia. Kłopoty finansowe dworu zmusiły go w pewien sposób do podjęcia się komponowania kantat kościelnych. Dzięki temu zyskaliśmy piękną muzykę, która powoli przywracana jest do życia. Debiutująca tą płytą sopranistka Miriam Feuersinger, której towarzyszy barokowy zespół z Bazylei grający na instrumentach z epoki, nadała tej muzyce wprost zapierającą dech w piersiach interpretację. Muzyka sama w sobie jest godna najwyższej pochwały, a wykonanie nadaje jej dodatkowych walorów. Barwa i kultura głosu, świadomość wykonawcza, wyrazowość i siła jej przekazu – wszystko to składa się na jeden wielki zachwyt każdego, kto sięgnie po tę płytę.
