Wenzel Heinrich Veit (1806-1862) is one of the most important German-Bohemian and Czech composers from the first half of the nineteenth century.

Veit’s lieder oeuvre comprises seven song cycles that were publishes during his lifetime; three individual lieder with opus numbers; and numerous unpublished lieder that survive only in manuscript. Veit’s songs were inspired by German poets including Heinrich Heine, Friedrich Schiller, Friedrich Rückert, Joseph von Eichendorff, Emanuel Geibel, and others
