Zygmunt Stojowski i Ludomir Różycki to wybitne postacie polskiej muzyki końca XIX i pierwsza połowa XX wieku. Obaj stali się znani nie tylko jako interesujący artyści i wykonawców, ale także jako namiętnych patriotów, zatroskanych o losy swojej ojczyzny i pielęgnowanie polskości w trudnych okresach historii. Album prezentujący ich sonaty wiolonczelowe jest częścią obchody 100-lecia odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości, przypominające o wielkim roli kultury rodzimej w procesie budowania tożsamości narodowej” (Tomasz Strahl). Sonata A-dur na fortepian i wiolonczelę op. 18 Stojowskiego – ucznia Ignacego Jana Paderewski, pierwszy polski kompozytor, któremu koncert monograficzny w słynnej Carnegie Hall zorganizowany – to utwór wirtuozowski, pełen przepychu, z obszerną, śmiałą częścią obu instrumentów i bogate melodie nawiązujące do narodowego trendu. Jako wizytówkę zaprezentował go m. in. Pablo Casalsów. Charakter Sonaty A-moll na wiolonczelę i fortepian op. 10 Różyckiego jest nieco inny. Jest to bardziej intymna kompozycja, charakteryzująca się uroczymi melodiami, żywiołową emocjonalnością, w w których można znaleźć odniesienia do polskiej muzyki ludowej. Obie Sonaty pozostają cennym świadectwem czas, w którym zostały skomponowane i zasługują na uznanie.

Zygmunt Stojowski and Ludomir Różycki are outstanding figures in Polish music at the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Both became known not only as interesting artists and performers, but also as passionate patriots, concerned about the fate of their homeland and cultivating Polishness in difficult periods of history. The album presenting their cello sonatas is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence, reminding us of the great role of native culture in the process of building national identity" (Tomasz Strahl). The Sonata in A major for piano and cello, op. 18 by Stojowski - a student of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the first Polish composer for whom a monographic concert was organized in the famous Carnegie Hall - is a virtuoso piece, full of splendor, with an extensive, bold part of both instruments and rich melodies referring to the national trend. It was presented as a showcase by, among others, Pablo Casals. The character of the Sonata in A minor for cello and piano, Op. 10 by Różycki is somewhat different. It is a more intimate composition, characterized by charming melodies, lively emotionality, in which one can find references to Polish folk music. Both Sonatas remain a valuable testimony to the time in which they were composed and deserve recognition.
