The album Tango Royal is a selection of Tangos by Piazzolla and others arranged for bandoneón player Carel Kraayenhof and his own sextet (Sexteto Canyengue) together with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra (and for some pieces together with the Netherlands Chamber Choir as well). The album includes Piazzolla’s famous work “Aconcagua” Concerto for bandoneón, string instruments and percussion. The album was recorded after the huge success of the performance of “Adios Nonino”(track 11 on Tango Royal) during the royal wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander (of the Netherlands) with Maxima (a girl from Argentina who had to cry when ’Adios Nonino” was played during the wedding ceremony whilst national television was broadcasting this ceremony live). Carel Kraayenhof is considered one of the world’s finest bandoneon players. He worked with Piazzola in Argentina for some years. Tango Riyal was released in the Netherlands 10 years ago and sold in that country more than 50.000 copies. So there is huge sales potential for the album if handled properly and directed to the right target group.
