In the mid-eighteenth century, the Rheinland city Mannheim held a prominent position among the musical capitals in not-yet centralized Germany. Among the artists attracted by the dynamic life at the Palatine Court were some cellists of rank who settled in the city from 1750 on: Innocenz Danzi and Anton Filtz were among the first, and caused Mannheim to start playing a significant role in the history of the violoncello. This new recording with Marco Testori and Davide Pozzi conveys an impression of the cello chamber music written by composers from Mannheim.
