This CD features Trond Kverno’s most important choral and organ works collected on one recording. The career of the composer who has shaped so much of Norwegian church culture and church music is now portrayed on this album comprising individual choral works along with organ works, all composed from the early 1970s up to 2004.
Bergen Cathedral Choir and conductor Kjetil Almenning have collaborated with organist Arnfinn Tobiassen on this recording in commemoration of Trond Kverno’s seventieth birthday. A fascination with Kverno’s oeuvre through almost daily contact with his liturgical works and hymn melodies led to the performers’ decision to immerse themselves in Kverno’s church music.
Organist Arnfinn Tobiassen is familiar to many as organist and choirmaster of the medieval church at Avaldsnes, as artistic director of the Norwegian Organ Festival, and as an enthralling concert performer. Prize-winning conductor Kjetil Almenning is the founder of Bergen Cathedral Choir and was nominated for a Grammy for the recording “Kind” with the chamber choir Ensemble 96. Bergen Cathedral Choir, established in 2009, performs at the Bergen International Festival and collaborates regularly with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Navy Band Bergen.
