The Dutch - Russian pianist Yuri Egorov’s performances of classical music were always marked by his resolutely individual musical character: he followed his own path, one that was far removed from pianistic effect and empty technical display. The idea of a career as such was supremely unimportant to him. Yuri’s playing was unique. It was completely unaffected and was characterised by its total integrity as well as by an enormous love for the music’s inner poetry. He was the perfect example of a musician who existed only to serve the music he performed. His playing was transparent and refined, with a profound respect for the music’s narrative line; he devoted his phenomenal technique to the realisation of his artistic vision. His playing may not have been always completely technically perfect but his artistry was beyond criticism. His approach to music and to the piano disregarded all purely virtuoso effect and caused him to be compared to another supreme musician - the legendary Dinu Lipatti.
