Mariano Diaz

Born in Buenos Aires, 1962. He studied piano at the Universidad de Artes y Ciencias Musicales de la U.C.A. He continued his piano studies with Susana Casacoff. Attracted by jazz, he studied with Santiago Giacobbe, and worked in Buenos Aires with Lito Epumer, Javier Malosetti, Mono Fontana and Luis Borda, among others.

In 1993 he settled in Madrid while studying in New York with Bruce Barth and Aaron Goldberg. He attended classes with George Cables, Joanne Brakeen and Kevin Hayes. He received the “AIE Tete Montoliú” (1999) and “Fundación Autor” (2003), scholarships.

Finalist in the SGAE Composition Biennial (2003) and nominated for the 2005 Grammy Awards for «Andando el tiempo» de Gerardo Núnez, as Best Flamenco Album.

He has played and/or recorded with great musicians such as Pedro Iturralde, Perico Sambeat, Jorge Pardo, Marc Miralta, Sonny Fortune, Frank Lazy, Gerardo Núnez, Paolo Fresu, Seamus Blake, Enrique Morente, Jerry Gonzalez, Javier Colina, Joaquín Chacón, Chris Kase, Eddie Henderson, Dave Liebman or Eric Marienthal.
