Gerhard Oppitz has played all the sonatas of the Viennese master Schubert in the course of his explorations, but he also has taken up many of Schubert's smaller pieces for the piano, which are less frequently played in concert and are still largely unknown. Here, the composer creates a special intimacy with the listener in these sometimes almost improvised works that provide fascinating insights into Schubert's creative process.

This CD continues Oppitz's Schubertian dialogue through the juxtaposition of the composer's great late period Sonata D 958 with many smaller pieces, such as the 10 variations of 1815, written when Schubert was just 18 years of age.
