Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) is one of the most important 20th century Spanish composers, second only to Manuel de Falla. Born in the Andalusian city of Seville, he was throughout his life fascinated by the hustle and bustle of this city. The composition "Canto a Sevilla" is a large, forty minute work, in which Turina set to music poems of Sevillan poets, including vibrant The Easter Procession which invokes the spirit of flamenco, and the ornamental fountains of the city ... - It is, in short, a loving homage to Sevilla! This work is complemented by three smaller pieces for mezzo-soprano and orchestra: a short "Farucca" a form of flamenco and "Poema en forma de canciones" (poem in the form of song / poem in the form of Songs) and "Saeta, en forma de salve ", two song cycles for mezzo soprano and orchestra. Brazilian conductor Celso Antunes has the temperament, and the emotional connectedness to this subject matter to convincingly realize the exotic impressions and infectious rhythms.
