Once upon a time ... most of the music composed after Bach's death was intended for instruments other than the organ. Only a few maintained the faith and kept the windchests humming. It is no secret that Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy composed many fine works for organ. But that Beethoven also composed works for organ, which Wolfgang Kleber reminds us of in his new Genuin CD release, is most likely to be surprising to many classical music fans. The exquisite Dietz organ of 1814 has focused and clearly delineated tonal production and does full justice to the excellent qualities of this music "from a bygone age."
