Two historical periods are juxtaposed on this GENUIN debut release by Duo Mixtura-not only in terms of programming but also in the unusual combination of instruments: Katharina Bäuml's shawm is a woodwind instrument which saw its heyday during the Renaissance but is still admired today for its fascinating timbres and tonal effects. And Margit Kern's accordion shines brilliantly as she moves easily between New Music works and selections from the Baroque and earlier. The recording's wide-ranging repertoire-from the 1600s to today-links two worlds in a convincing tonal experiment rarely encountered elsewhere.
