In the highly praised Mahler cycle, Gabriel Feltz and his orchestras, the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, revealed a rare feeling for concentrating on the essentials in these exuberant works. The German magazine Fono Forum praised him for "recordings conceived with a cool head," and the Stuttgarter Nachrichten exulted over "a production of unleashed sound contrasts." The complete edition includes a 108-page booklet with comments by the conductor on all works as well as an original contribution by Volker Hagedorn.
