The bells of St Mary's
This recording features organ and choral works from one of Scotland's most famous historic churches. Once heavily damaged during Henry VIII's 'rough wooing', the restored St Mary's Collegiate Church, Haddington resounds with choral works by Tomkins, Stanford, Parry, and Harris and the music of Buxtehude, Bach, and Brahms performed by Philip Sawyer on the Scottish-built Lammermuir pipe organ. "Sensitive and stylish playing from Philip Sawyer, and the earthy voices of James Waters’ The Consort of Voices give this compilation of organ and choral music a lusty attraction." - Kenneth Walton, The Scotsman 25th November 2002
