Chamber Music with Violoncello:

Cello treasures from Würzburg Giovanni Benedetto Platti (c. 1697-1763) had already arrived at the court of Würzburg as a young man, and stayed there throughout his life. The Prince Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn, who came from a musically obsessed family, had fetched him from Italy, and wanted him to bring the splendour of Italian Baroque music to his court. Platti appears to have been closely linked with this family in his lifetime, for most of the works of Platti are found in the music collection of the Count von Schönborn-Wiesentheid. In particular, for the brother of the Prince Bishop, Rudolf Franz Erwein Count von Schönborn, who must have been an outstanding cellist, there are many works for cello, of which a few jewels are now, for the first time, included in this recording.
