This CD is not only a portrait of the dynamic and many-sided trumpet enthusiast, Joahim Schafer, but also presents the virtuosity of the instrument itself, its tonal versatility, its ability to sing sweetly one moment and display dazzling agility the next. In original versions and arrangements of Baroque, Classical, Romantic and modern works, the trumpet is heard as a solo instrument and in ensemble, variously accompanied by strings, the organ, the piano and the harpsichord; the selection could hardly be more varied. This CD also introduces many of the musicians with whom Joachim Schafer has worked closely in the past decade.
