Landmarks are a point of orientation. The outstanding Calmus Ensemble interprets ten vocal 'landmarks' on their album of the same name for CARUS. They are works by ten composers from ten different countries. Musically, this varied programme opens up the traditional boundaries, with a mixture of the most diverse styles. Popular songwriters meet the classical avant-garde, folk meets jazz, South American rhythms groove alongside Yiddish melodies. You quickly realize, for example, that it's not such a long way from minimal music to pop and how easily classical harmonies and jazz sounds can be woven together. You will meet famous masters like Francis Poulenc, Leonard Cohen, Georg Kreisler or Sting, but you will definitely discover a lot of new and interesting things while listening to them - like the Cracow singer-songwriter Mordechaj Gebirtig or the South American composers Federico Ruiz and Aylton Escobar. With this fascinating album the vocal ensemble creates a kind of sounding globalization in the best sense of the word. The programme of this recording reflects a (post-) modern society that remembers the past, but always knows how to reinterpret it with great creativity and inspiration, a society that is ready to open up, sometimes pensive, only to laugh, dance and swing to its heart's content. The pieces brought together here serve us as points of orientation, they are landmarks and milestones of a lifelong journey.

Recorded at Echolux Studio, Leipzig on 2 July, 4-5 & 11-12 November 2019.
