Charles Gounod: Requiem in C Bearbeitung für Soli, Chor und Orgel von Zsigmond Szathmáry
Antonín Dvořák: Messe in D Bearbeitung für Bläserquintett von Joachim Linckelmann
2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets and English horn, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, harps, strings and organ are required for the original massive orchestra which Charles Gounod envisaged for his Requiem in C major. The first edition of Antonín Dvořák’s Mass in D major is for a smaller orchestra but nonetheless requires 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 3 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, strings and organ. Both works appear on this recording in versions for smaller ensembles, which means they can also be performed when only limited forces are available: in the Gounod Requiem chorus and soloists are accompanied only by organ, while the Dvořák Mass acquires a special tonal color through its wind quintet accompaniment. Recorded 2–4 January 2014 at the Pauluskirche Berlin (Gounod) ZankUkośnika and 6–8 January 2014 at the RBB, Saal 1lem (Dvořák)
