CARUS initiated this charitable project to further singing with children. Following the “Wiegenlieder” (lullaby) collection in 2009, the “Volkslieder” (German folk songs) in 2010, and the “Kinderlieder” (German children’s songs) in 2011 the project now reaches its climax with the “Weihnachtslieder” (carols).
Christmas carols form a particularly important element of the project, as they have high significance once a year for families. Then, everyone can be involved – children, parents and grandparents. And what can be more unifying than when everyone sings together? Songs which have been passed down through several generations and without which a true Christmas atmosphere is unimaginable. It doesn’t matter whether someone has a better voice, a higher or lower one, a lighter or louder one. In singing together all these differences disappear. There is no sense of competition. And there is no difference between the generations. Without the slightest difficulty, fouryearolds can join in “Kommet, ihr Hirten” (“Come, ye shepherds”) with eighty-year-olds.
All those who have taken part in the nowcompleted song project have constantly striven to produce highquality recordings, for the benefit of the listeners – most especially the children.
