Rachmaninoff:
Moments musicaux op. 16
Klaviersonata No. 2 op. 36
Kreisler (arr.Rachmaninoff):
Liebesfreud’
Liebesleid
“My intention is to reveal multiple levels of meaning in Rachmaninoff’s music: unadorned simplicity, melancholy sadness, the joy of spring awakening, cold distance, wit and humour, the sound of bells, the music’s total absence of self-pity, its noble character, sensibility, variety of colours, generosity: all in all, the various layers of Rachmaninoff’s own personality.
Rachmaninoff’s music, despite some erroneous opinions, is masterfully composed in a truly independent style. At times, certain motifs intentionally recall Chopin, Mendelssohn or Tchaikovsky, but all such resemblances are only surface deep.” (Excerpt from the lines notes by the artist © 2012)
Evgenia Rubinova is one of the most impressive pianists of the new generation. In 2003 she followed in the footsteps of the likes of Mitsuko Uchida and Lars Vogt by winning the Silver Medal at the renowned Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. Unanimously hailed by audiences and the press for her bold personality and musical imagination, her “power of personal expression proved its worth in a superior balance of extremes” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung); “...an absolutely colossal performance by an absolutely extraordinary pianist!” (Artur Pizzaro, BBC Television). Rubinova’s début CD, released on the EMI label, was rated top-notch by reviewers on an international scale.
In recent seasons Ms. Rubinova appeared with the LPO under Vladimir Jurowski, the Hallé Orchestra under Sir Mark Elder, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Berliner Symphoniker (in a concert in Tokyo). In December 2010, Rubinova gave her South American début in Lima with the leading Peruvian orchestra, the Orquesta de la Ciudad de los Reyes. She has also given solo recitals at Wigmore Hall (London), in New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Paris and Zurich. In May 2011 she gave her first Chinese solo recital at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts.
In Germany, apart from having sensationally stepped in fur Yundi Li (Dortmund) and for Gabriela Montero (Bonn), Rubinova has given further recitals at Rheingau Music Festival, at the Ruhr Piano Festival and at the Kissingen Summer Festival. She has appeared twice at the Berlin Philharmonie, including a performance with Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. In further appearances she has teamed up with the Gürzenich Orchestra in the Cologne Philharmonie, with Stuttgart RSO in the Liederhalle, with Frankfurt Museum Orchestra at the Alte Oper and with the Munich Symphony at the Gasteig Philharmonie. Crowning a portrait series of four concerts at Frankfurt Alte Oper she performed Chopin’s 1st Piano Concerto with the German String Philharmonic conducted by Michael Sanderling. Further recital appearances have led her to perform at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn and in the public radio broadcast auditoriums of Bremen and Mainz.
