Ignaz Joseph Pleyel was a pupil of Joseph Haydn and to some of his contemporaries the legitimate successor of his teacher. The three string quartets selected for this recording were dedicated to Pleyel‘s friend Luigi Boccherini. The „Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung“ stated after the performance: „This composer combines sweetness and clarity with profound depth and rich harmonic development in such way as to create something altogether extraordinary. The musical world would do well to take note of this new phenomen.“
