In the late 19th century, German composers dominated the concert halls of France. This was to change with the Societé nationale de musique, founded by Saint-Saëns and Fauré, among others. The goal was music that would combine German depth with French charm and esprit. The four works on this production are among the finest in the French repertoire for violin.
