Gustav Mahler’s influence as a composer can be felt right up until the present day. Even in the
work of a composer as important as Luciano Berio there are many Mahler quotes, and he also
orchestrated many of the early Mahler Lieder, but Mahler’s example is often unmistakeable in the
works of younger composers as well. Compositions by Mahler’s friends and contemporaries –
Hans Rott, Alphons Diepenbrock, Alexander Zemlinsky, Josef Bohuslav Foerster, and
Bruno Walter – place Mahler’s own works in a new light but are less well known so far.
Dominik Wörner, bass-baritone, won first prize in the singing category at the XIII. International
Bach Competition 2002 and a special award from the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra. His training
concluded with in-depth studies in Irwin Gage’s master class for song interpretation, which he
completed with honours, in Zurich. He has made guest appearances in nearly every European
country, the USA, Asia and Australia under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe
Herreweghe, Manfred Honeck, Sigiswald Kuijken or Masaaki Suzuki.
