Aurelia Shimkus (born in 1997) is Vestard Shimkus’ little sister and according to him Aurelia outdoes already her brother in technical perfection.
The young Latvian plays on her debut CD on ARS PRODUKTION a technically sophisticated programme with highbrow musical parts. Beside the work Scherzo and Marsch by Liszt she offers two sonatas by Beethoven and Schumann. She succeeds with her album in tracing the development of the piano scherzo of the 19th century and identifying its many facets.

The scherzo becomes a playground of humor in a sense of such unsolvable fusion of the most contrasting emotions, where passion hides behind the mask of pain and pain lookslike passion.”
