Is it by accident, or by design that Wagner himself did not write any string quartets, piano trios orsonatasforsolo instrument with piano accompaniment? Not only did Wagner neglect chamber music in his creative work, he left it out completely. Is there any good reason to perform arrangements of his works, arrangements that were made for “everyday household use” – playing music together at home? Will it work, musically? The ensemble, Le Quatuor Romantique, answers with a resounding “Yes, if the arrangements are good!”, as they have discovered with various arrangements ofthe works of other composers. And so,they took on the “Wagner Venture”, and from a broad selection they chose these forthis current SACD.
