Around 1700 Italian keyboard music, which during the 17th century had largely been polyphonic in nature, reinvented itself on the model of the violin sonata, with a florid treble and simpler bass. This basic treble-bass polarity, remains a strong force throughout the keyboard music of Baldassarre Galuppi’ (1706-1785). The nine Galuppi sonatas chosen for this recording, ranging in date from the 1750s (or earlier) to 1781, offer a cross-section of his keyboardistic art and of the instruments suitable for realizing it

Since 1993 Luca Guglielmi has been engaged in intensive concert activities that took him to perform - as a soloist and with an ensemble – in the most prestigious concert halls and opera houses in the world. Since 1997 he collaborates with Jordi Savall and his ensembles. From 1999 until 2001 he was harpsichordist with Il Giardino Armonico. Luca Guglielmi is also a regular member of the most prestigious early music ensembles such as Ensemble Zefiro (Alfredo Bernardini), Ensemble La Fenice (Jean Tubery), Ricercar Consort (Philippe Pierlot), Armonico Tributo Austria (Lorenz Duftschmid), Cantica Symphonia (Giuseppe Maletto).
