”Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767), although he was considered in his day to be the greatest German composer, is today still in the shadow of his friend and colleague Johann Sebastian Bach. His output, by virtue of its immense size – he wrote about thirty operas, more than a thousand cantatas, fortysix Passions, a great number of oratorios and other sacred works, several hundred orchestral suites, a vast number of concertos and chamber music works – is often said today to be superficial. We wish, through the works chosen for this CD, to prove how Telemann, despite being so prolific, aimed to produce a work of quality in all circumstances, and, moreover, to obtain proof, musically, of an outstanding humorous talent, even bordering on the scabrous.” (E. Demeyere) Bach Concentus was founded in 2007 by Ewald Demeyere (Artistic Director) and Giulio D’Alessio. This orchestra, playing period instruments, devotes itself to the instrumental and vocal repertoire of the Baroque and Classical periods, specialising in works by the Bach dynasty.
